In the three verses of this song I refer to three letters (that actually were written and read in real life) that had been exchanged in some of my relationships. I always felt like this song was more for me than it was for other people as creating any kind of art often is. I remember writing the words to this song and the therapeutic healing feelings that it gave me. It was just another manifestation of the power that creating art holds and that sometimes even if you create something and no one ever hears it, you still accomplished something amazing.
lyrics
I wrote you a letter when we were in love in the spring
You said that you meant it, every word every night every thing
But I knew it was over, and I felt so alone
And sometimes it works out but I guess I’ll assume that it won’t
I wrote you a letter signed with the ink of my heart
The silence it killed us, love left me alone in the dark
And I knew it was over, but I cried, and I fought
And I know I’m in love, but I guess I’ll assume that your not
You wrote me a letter but I saw through the lines and the dots
Did I learn my lesson? I don’t know maybe yes maybe not
So I’m going to the south, where the mail can’t find me
And If I go and I stay then one day I may finally be free
