I wrote this song for a good friend who a few years before this time had gone through a divorce. It is mostly about the hope that eventually comes after years of telling yourself that you will never feel hope again. If we let them, the scars on our souls will always heal themselves and we can allow new people into our hearts. It may take years but I believe that no matter what we go through one day we will wake up, and sometimes to our surprise, realize that we are healed. One of the most beautiful things about the human soul is its capacity to heal and forgive.
lyrics
I’d have loved you
Back when you were young
Back when life was good
Before you felt you had to run
And I’d have held you
Held you in my arms
And I’d have recorded every moment in the corners of my heart
And any time that you were scared I’d have your back
And any time you felt like crying I’d make you laugh
Yeah I’d have been there, I’d have cared dear
I’d have loved you
You can search dear
Go look high and low
There’s seven billion other people here just walking around this throne
And if you find him, if you feel that spark
Gotta put your faith in something got to walk into the dark
And any time that you were scared I’d have your back
And any time you felt like crying I’d make you laugh
I’d have been there, I’d have cared dear
I’d have loved you
We keep saying that life’s fate or choice or maybe that its somewhere in between
And maybe when our time has come we’ll figure out exactly what love means
I know her hurt you,
Back when you were young
Back when life was good
Before it all went wrong
You felt lost dear
I know you felt alone
And I couldn’t hear you cry and no I couldn’t hear you groan
But I’d have been there like the God that pulled you through
Yeah I’d done anything I could to comfort you
I’d have been there, I’d have cared dear
I’d have loved you
