about

This song is over ten years old and still brings back fond memories. I wrote it when I was 17 and really working hard to find my voice as a songwriter. This song helped me to develop my passion for songwriting and performing that I still hold today.

I remember the day I wrote it well. My friend and guitar player in our band Trust came over to my house and started telling me about one of his friends and told me I should write a song about her. Like most of my good ones this song came quick, in a few minutes.

Our producer Mike Brand spent hours in editing, mixing, and mastering. He got Kenny Loggins drummer and Kid Rocks bass player to come and play on the track. after about 100 hours prom queen was finally complete. Later on it got played on 94.1. Though we went our separate ways Jon and I are excited to be reunited and making music again.

lyrics

Can you imagine the girl of your dreams
She’s perfect or so it seems
But she smiles only skin deep
And she goes home to an empty house and cries herself to sleep

(Chorus)

And she is a prom queen
But there’s a side of her that no ones seen
Cause being popular’s not everything
And she’s always on top
But the pain it won’t stop
And she don’t know how beautiful she really is
She’s a Prom Queen

And boyfriends she’s had her fill
She dulls her pain by going to parties
Getting drunk and popping pills
Decisions she’ll regret
Cause no single moment lasts forever
And some things you just never forget

(Chorus)

(Bridge)
She keep it all bottled up inside and all she does is hide
She can’t get out cause all the walls are closing in
So I say don’t stop or give in tomorrows gonna be another day
And every thing will be ok

And she’s anything but sure
As she grabs the crown and takes the flowers
And walks out on that dance floor
But she smiles all the same
Cause no single moment lasts forever
And some things just never change

(Chorus)
